“Sri Dhanvantharaye Namaha”
As said in our Hindu mythology, Suras and Asuras (Devas and Demons) churned the Ksheera Sagara (the ocean of milk). During this course, a poison called “Haala –Hala” emerges out. In order to save the world Rudra Deva swallows this poison and contains it in his throat. Hence, he is called “Visha Kantha”. After this, “Kalpa Vruksha” – a tree, “Kama Dhenu” – a cow, “Airavatha” – an elephant, “Uchchaishravas” – a horse, Kaustubha mani – adivine gem, Apsaras, and “Devi Lakshmi” emerged. Finally Lord Dhanvantri an avatar of almighty Narayana holding a pitcher in his left hand containing Amritha (the divine nectar) emerged out. Lord Dhanvantri preached the science Ayurveda (Ayu + Veda = Ayurveda means knowledge to live long with health) to Ashwini Devathas.
Then Lord Dhanvathari incarnated as Divo Dasa, king of Kashi, preached Ayurveda to Rishi’s (saints) such as Athreya, Kashyapa, Bharadwaja, Dallhana and others. This journey continued further to great physicians and surgeons such as Shushrutha, Charaka, Madhava and others. In this way this journey is still continuing thru eminent personalities.
Thus, the originator of medical science is Lord Dhanvathari himself.
